The glory promised in vain,
the need for heroes and leaders
is just a farce of our fate,
a story written by winners.

The fuel that drives us ahead,
the ink in history’s pages
is blood that’s shed in our ways,
the ways that formed through the ages.

The need to conquer and kill
is countless centuries older
-older than searching for water-
It’s a delusion,
sealed within our kind.

The light that’s shed in our lives,
whatever stays through our passing
is how we formed through our times,
times that are not everlasting.
